Lead Biostatistician
Location: WRAIR, at the Forest Glen annex in Silver Spring,
MD or in Chevy Chase, MD
Job Summary: Perform biostatistical and epidemiologic
analysis to assess the magnitude, reliability, validity, and
precision of associations (e.g., between exposures and disease) and
make inferences about target populations using data from samples of
those populations. Prepare technical reports, summarization of
results and interpretations of statistical analyses of research
data. Develop statistical/mathematical models in the evaluation of
epidemiological data. Collaborate with departmental researchers to
determine study protocols and analysis plans, develop and deliver
departmental analytical reports and oral/visual presentations to
professional groups.
Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Science combined with a
minimum of 5 years experience or a PhD with 3 to 5 years of
experience. Equivalent combination of education and/or experience
will be considered. Requires advanced training in biostatistics.
Additional training in economic analytical modeling in a medical
environment is highly desirable. Requires theoretical expertise and
experience in generalized linear models, survival analyses,
proportional hazards, and other types of multivariate statistical
models. Must be able to develop and deliver analytical reports and
oral/visual presentations to professional groups.
Strong working knowledge of statistical software (i.e. SAS or STATA)
and Microsoft Excel, Access and PowerPoint required. Familiarity
with clinical decision software to explore the effects of
discounting, variations in clinical assumptions, and other aspects
of sensitivity analysis in cost and cost effectiveness analyses
preferred.
Training or experience in developing predictive models for
success/failure in large populations using risk factors of various
strength and positive predictive value very useful. Strong writing
skills, preferably demonstrated by one or more published articles as
author or co-author. Experience or familiarity with military
preventive medicine issues, military populations, military
structure, and ability to interact with military leadership and
other personnel very useful.
Position will require travel to meetings and conferences when
necessary.
National Career Readiness Certificate preferred.
