About the Position: Incumbents are responsible for performing professional level
analytical support to management in special projects and
day-to-day operations, including including community risk
analysis, statistical analysis, research and special studies,
program evaluation and analytical support for program
development. The ideal candidates will be highly-motivated,
self-starting individuals that are able to perform complex
projects and activities with limited involvement and technical
expertise from management. The current vacancy is assigned to
the Fire Prevention Department, Risk Analysis and Mitigation
Evaluation Section. This position is distinguished from the
Management Assistant by its professional level analytical
responsibilities. This recruitment will establish an Open
Eligible List which will be in effect for up to one year and
from which future vacancies may be filled.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (These duties are intended to be
representative sample of the duties performed by the class.)
Produces and/or processes a variety of information and/or data
in assigned area of responsibility. Performs complex evaluation
and analysis of community risk data, which includes: conducting
research; determining and raising pertinent issues; summarizing
findings; presenting results; and, performing other related
duties. Participate in the development of programs to mitigate
community risk. Prepares a variety of reports; analyzes related
data and makes recommendations based on findings. Participates
in/on a variety of meetings, committees, and/or other related
groups. Provides complex level support activities in support of
assigned area of responsibility. May assist in preparing and
monitoring program budgets. Performs other duties of a similar
nature or level.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, or a
related field, and three years of related analytical experience;
or, an equivalent combination of education and experience
sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the
job.
Valid California Driver’s License.
Special Qualifications: Skills in supervision, marketing and
knowledge of statistical software such as SAS are highly
desirable.
Knowledge of: Public administration concepts and theories;
Principles and practices in assigned area of responsibility;
Statistical analysis and theory; Report writing techniques;
Public relations principles; Applicable Federal, State, and
Local laws, rules, and regulations; and Project management
methods.
Skills in: Prioritizing and assigning work; Handling multiple tasks
simultaneously; Assisting in developing and implementing
procedures; Speaking in public; Analyzing a variety of data
and/or information and making recommendations based on findings;
Conducting research; Writing reports; Interpreting and applying

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in this class typically require: reaching, fingering,
grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally,
and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible
amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm
and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than
that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time,
the job is rated for Light Work.
Working Conditions:
Incumbents may be subjected to dusts, poor ventilation,
chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, and
travel.
SELECTION PROCEDURES:
Application review: (Refer/Non-Refer) The Human Resources
Division reviews all application materials to identify the
qualified candidates to be referred to the next step of the
competition. Referred candidates will be invited to complete a
supplemental questionnaire.
Application Appraisal/Supplemental Questionnaire Panel review:
A
panel of job knowledge experts will rate the information
provided in the application/ supplemental questionnaire. Only
the better qualified candidates will be referred to the Written
Exercise and Panel Interview.
Written Exercise (30% Weight): Referred candidates will be
invited to participate in a job related written exercise.
Qualification Appraisal Panel review (70% Weight): Referred
candidates will be invited to participate in a panel oral
interview.
Selection procedure revision: All affected persons will be
notified if revisions of the selection procedures become
necessary. |
