Statistical Programming Manager (Research Triangle Park, NC)

Job Description: The Statistics and Epidemiology Unit of RTI International seeks
a Senior Statistical Programming Manager to lead a team of
statistical programmers and work closely with RTI’s senior
statisticians to develop the next generation of RTI’s highly
successful SUDAAN® software for analysis of correlated data,
such as survey data, longitudinal data, and repeated measures
data. This individual will actively participate in all phases of
the software development lifecycle, from design documents to
user manuals. The software will be developed primarily for
Windows operating systems (both 32- and 64-bit operating
systems), but will also be made available for Linux and
Sun/Solaris operating systems.
The successful candidate is expected to have strong skills and
relevant experience in statistical theory, development of
efficient numerical algorithms, and technical writing. Working
knowledge of numerically efficient algorithms suitable for
complex mathematical analysis is necessary. Working knowledge of
commonly used computer operating systems also is desirable.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the team designing and programming the next generation of SUDAAN® software to perform a wide variety of complex
statistical analyses with correlated data.
- Effectively manage a team of statistical programmers.
- Work closely with statistical and technical staff at various
levels of expertise.
- Prepare software design reports, test plans, user manuals and
other related documentation suitable for both technical and
non-technical audiences.
Qualifications:
- PhD or equivalent degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer
Science or related field with at least 3 years experience
developing complex statistical software.
- Advanced skills in computer programming, numerical analysis,
and statistics.
- Excellent writing, leadership, communication, and
organizational skills.
- Ability to quickly understand technical problems and offer
viable solutions.
Desired Skills:
- Experience with a Software Development Life Cycle approach to
creating software.
- Ability to provide solutions that are independent of platform
or software.
- C/C++ programming expertise.
- SAS programming
